Clearway leads the best way with two utility-scale Hawaiian solar initiatives

Clearway Energy Group, a renewable energy company, has launched two utility-scale solar projects in Mililani and Waiawa, Hawaii.

The 39 MW Mililani I Solar and 36 MW Waiawa Solar Power locations are combined with a combined storage capacity of 300 MWh, making them one of the first battery storage systems and solar systems on a supply scale on the island.

"Hawaii has long been a leader in climate solutions and we are honored to continue contributing to this mission with two new renewable energy locations in the state," said Craig Cornelius, CEO of Clearway. “The addition of solar energy coupled with storage on O & # 39; ahu is an important step towards a clean, affordable and reliable power grid. We thank Hawaiian Electric, Kamehameha Schools, and many others for their continued partnership to advance innovative energy projects and move Hawaii toward a carbon-free economy. "

The two projects represent a $ 280 million investment and will create more than 460 local union jobs during construction. The locations are expected to bring in more than $ 10 million in taxes for the city and county. Upon completion of the Waiawa Project, US $ 200,000 in community benefits will be made available in the coming years, including an educational partnership with the Blue Planet Foundation to develop renewable energy curricula and an annual internship program on the mainland with students from Kamehameha Schools.

The construction of Mililani I Solar and Waiawa Solar Power is led by Moss and is expected to be completed in 2022.
